SADAS & ITALIMPIANTI: Safety and Continuity for the New Facility.

Ensuring the continuity of the power supply is a strategic priority for any industrial facility. For this reason, SADAS collaborated with ITALIMPIANTI to develop the Protection, Command, and Control System (SPCC) for a new HV/MV transformer bay designed to enhance the reliability of an existing substation.

The project arose from the need to supplement the main transformer with a backup solution capable of ensuring uninterrupted production even in the event of failures or maintenance activities, all with minimal impact on existing infrastructure and in compliance with Terna specifications. The system developed by SADAS integrates advanced protection, control, and supervision functions, featuring a redundant architecture, disturbance recording, a SIEMENS operator interface, and Ethernet TCP/IP communication for remote monitoring. Compliance with the IEC 61850 standard also ensures interoperability and ease of integration with future plant expansions. A key element of the project was ITALIMPIANTI’s installation of a HITACHI COMPASS circuit breaker with a NABLA busbar system—a solution that enabled the integration of a second HV/MV transformer while minimizing civil engineering work and modifications to the existing substation.

Thanks to this collaboration, the customer now has a more reliable and resilient infrastructure that is ready to face future challenges, with greater operational safety, centralized control, and a significant reduction in the risk of plant downtime. This result confirms the value of the synergy between specialized expertise and advanced technologies in the electrical infrastructure sector.
